The IPAF Training 3a and 3b, also known as the IPAF Scissor Lift and IPAF Cherry Picker Course, is designed for operators who need to prepare and operate various types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). This includes IPAF 3A Scissor Lifts, IPAF 3B Cherry Pickers, and IPAF 3B Mobile Booms such as articulated and electric boom lifts. It’s suitable for those who need to operate these machines in their workplace, ensuring safe and efficient operation of MEWPs.
Entry requirements
For the IPAF 3a Scissor Lift and IPAF 3b Cherry Picker Course, candidates are required to have a level of literacy that enables them to fully understand safety notices and manufacturer’s instruction manuals for MEWPs. They also need to be physically fit, in good health, and should not have problems with eyesight or hearing, as the course involves the operation of IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Cherry Pickers. Suitable protective gear, including a hard hat with a chin strap, eye protection, footwear, a hi-vis jacket/vest, and a harness with a lanyard, is also needed for the practical session.
Course Content
The IPAF 3a Scissor Lift and IPAF 3b Mobile Boom Training Course covers the following key areas:
- Health & Safety regulations and legislation for MEWPs.
- Working at Height Regulations for IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Cherry Pickers.
- Accident control and prevention when operating MEWPs.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for IPAF 3A and IPAF 3B courses.
- Pre-use inspection checks on IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Mobile Booms.
- Correct wear of safety harnesses for MEWPs.
- Operation of IPAF 3A Scissor Lifts and IPAF 3B Cherry Pickers safely and effectively.
- Manoeuvring of IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Mobile Booms as required.
The course aims to provide candidates with the expertise to carry out pre-use inspection checks, operate IPAF 3A Scissor Lifts and IPAF 3B Cherry Pickers safely and effectively, and manoeuvre the MEWPs as required. The course includes both theory and practical training sessions, followed by assessments.
Duration
The IPAF 3a Scissor Lift and IPAF 3b Mobile Boom Training Course typically lasts for one full day. Upon successful completion of the IPAF 3A and IPAF 3B course, delegates will be issued with an IPAF ePAL (Powered Access License) card which is downloaded to the ePAL app on their phone. They also receive a physical certificate and card issued by IPAF. The IPAF PAL card is recognized worldwide as proof of MEWP operator training for IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Cherry Pickers.
IPAF ePAL
Starting from 01 June 2021, all IPAF PAL cards and certificates will be issued in digital format through the ePAL App. Operators can download this app for free on their Apple iOS and Android devices. It can be used to access and view digital PAL Cards, Logbooks, and IPAF Safety Guides for IPAF 3A Scissor Lifts and IPAF 3B Mobile Booms. Our Instructors will guide you through the process of using the app during your IPAF course.
AV Training will be using the new IPAF Digital PAL Card Licence Application (ePAL) to process all IPAF certification for IPAF Scissor Lifts and IPAF Cherry Pickers. The IPAF Digital PAL Card Licence Application (ePAL) is a mandatory item when making a booking for the IPAF 3A and IPAF 3B course and is included in your course fee for free.
If you require a physical PAL Card Licence Application (Printed Certificate and IPAF PAL Card), it will be charged at £20/person for the IPAF 3A Scissor Lift and IPAF 3B Mobile Boom Training Course.
